Quality dry latrines as an innovation in schools and colleges
Description
Installation of dry latrines at the Nicolas Robinson School in Mekele. The prototype of the toilet design, constructed at the Nicolas School in Mekele, has been extremely successful and has very low running costs, unlike conventional toilets with septic tanks. The design uses sunshine to warm air, creating a chimney effect and preventing the toilets from smelling. All waste is mixed with soil to dry and compost, and then can be used as a fertiliser after 2 years of anaerobic digestion.
