Description
Short listed design from Building Trust international Cambodian housing competition:
We make use of discarded water bottles as the main material to provide Cambodian a new practical kind of residence. We hope that our building is not only cheap, but also able to change the current status of their lives.
As for daily use, this is a habitable house, providing comfortable living conditions and plenty of light, and also being able to produce food, create economic benefit to the residents, and alleviate the burden of life.
When disaster strikes, the house is a refuge, not only ensuring the safety of life, but also being able to provide food and water through the tribulation. Building process requires the participation of the residents. Because of its simple construction method, residents can participate in the construction of housing. In this way, the construction cost can be saved, and more residents will acquire the construction techniques. By building houses, they'll be able to earn living allowance, and strengthen the relationship in community and family.
From eight aspects (light, water, buoyancy, food, education, comfort, adaptability, furniture,) we will explain how our design improve their life, and all of the improvement is simply based on the rational use of the discarded materials (for example: plastic bottles).
To sum up, we concerned not only about the cost of construction, but also about the fundamental improvements of the locals' life caused by this design.
